Schengen Visa
For tourism, business, or another purpose mentioned in Regulation (EC) No 810/2009 establishing the EU’s Visa Code, a short-stay visa for the Netherlands and Schengen can be obtained for a maximum of 90 days. As a rule, a person may not stay in the Schengen area on the basis of a short-stay visa for more than 90 days out of a 180-day period. For a stay of 90 days in the Schengen area, someone should have stayed outside of Schengen for at least 90 days before access on the basis of a short-stay visa can be granted again. With a short-stay visa, someone can visit the Netherlands to visit friends or family or take a holiday there.
It can be obtained under the conditions of a multiple-entry visa. This visa is issued for a more extended period, 1 to 5 years, so the applicant does not need to turn to the Dutch embassy for a visa every time he travels. Note that also with a multiple-entry visa, the applicant may not exceed 90 days out of the 180-day stay in Schengen.
